Should you be able to disapline your own child by smacking?

I think you should be able to discipline your own children the way you feel fit. I think the issue has been confused with abusing and neglecting children. Social Services is so wrapped up in not getting involed emotionally and all the red tape that i feel all they care about really is the pay packet. They cannot extinguish between discipline and true child neglect that these measures have had to be brought in. I dont agree with smacking as a first resort nor severe smacking, again there is a difference between smacking a child and beating a child. Maybe if the cane or ruler was brought back into schools and parents took a harsher approach to parenting then there wouldn't be so many children disrespecting Adults and Teachers, or getting into so much trouble at such young ages.
And who the hell is Mr Tony Blair to tell us what to do, he has ruined our country!

Personally, I would never smack a child in the face. It is just too violent. I might give a pat on the butt, depending on what the situation was. But violence never EVER solves anything. Try talking to the child. Communication is the key to solving children issues. Believe me, it takes more patience, but worth the outcome!

That is the problem with parents these days. Some kids need a good old fashion spanking.
And claiming ADHD and all the other crap is an excuse for their child to be an idiot in public. And for them to not properly parent their child.

I dont think so no!! but some seam too there are other ways of doing it without scaring your child and making them wonder if you love them ? no matter what they say you never know whats happening in there precious little minds these things dont scar them prehaps on the outside but they do on the inside!! its just cruel a lot of parents just do take it out on there children tho the reason there mad has not stemmed from the children !!

umm i think that it sometimes depends on the child and age of child. when kids are young i think that it is ok to be spanked but when they get older and start to get mouthy then i think they should be smacked in the mouth

Yes. I was spanked as a child, and I'm glad. It only hurts for a little while, and as long as you explain the reasoning behind it, it's all good. Don't do it out of anger, though, that could be confused as abuse. Don't let your kids be brats.
