In Russia... oh my... apparently they didn't have the digital thermometer for the ear, which takes only a few seconds... and it must have been either their policy for the sake of accuracy... or she was having fun torturing you girls.... because 30 minutes is way too long... and giving an injection without doctor's order is very fishy, too... thank God you girls are still alive.

Although a rectal temp is the most reliable one, what you're saying doesn't make sense to me. On your back or standing up is not the way to take a rectal. And it's never left in for more than 3 minutes. An injection without a diagnosis is inappropriate. But in answer to your question, school temps are usually taken orally but I can't speak for how things are done in Russia.

In the U.S. this is absolutely not correct. We are not even supposed to use Mercury thermometers here anymore and even then it should take no more than 5 minutes to get an accurate temp. However, the nurse may have had some kind of standing orders from the physician that allowed her to give a shot, but I dont see how a simple temp reading would allow her to know what your friend had.

I don't know how it is in Russia, but that is not acceptable here. No school needs to take a rectal temp. That is usually reserved for babies, and most of the time an under arm temp is used for them. She certainly shouldn't have left it in for a half hour!! Also, medicine should not be administered without a Dr.'s say so.

Absurd. They do crazy things in Russia. Maybe, she's a lesbian who likes to get her kicks that way. Taking oral temperature is the most way of taking a person's temp. Rectal temp is mostly utilized in children or infants., for accuracy. And that shot is a coup-d- grace. Was it antibiotics? It should had been ordered by a physician. Besides, if your friend was feverish. Usually they would need to do a blood culture. This way, they'll isolate the bug specific antibiotics to attack it.
