Since the first anniversary is paper try what I did. I made a mock cheque from "Cupid tlc" paying all my love to her. My wife loved it and we're five years and still counting.

Go for a romantic meal and "present" the cheque to him.

Seeing as the traditional first year ift is paper how about putting together a photo album of pictures of the two of you. Not just any photo albm, try getting a ring bound sketch pad or something and decorate the pages with things that matter to the two of you that relate to the picture. Like if you went to the beach try finding a postcard for that place and put on the page with the photo. You could even caption the pictures

1st anniversary is paper, you could leave him a paper chase with clues where to find the next clue and be at the end of the paper chase with his real present. I know it's kind of soppy but what can I say!

Congratulations by the way.x

A traditional 1st wedding gift is paper. If he has a favorite artist, get him a nice framed print of a painting. Or go to Davinci.com, submit a picture of the two of you together and get it stenciled in pen or colored pencil, have it framed and matted.
