Essentially it says to remove my basement window. The old basement window has a steel frame that is kind of rusted. I was told those basement windows are difficult to remove. In lowes they sell these already made glassblock windows with vents in the center that are already made. The instructions show to use like a mortar bag and squeeze mortar around the entire window. It seems to me that It would be hard to get into there and it would not be very strong once your finished. Almost like someone could if they wanted to just kick it in??? Is it neccesary that I need to build a frame around there???? I need full instructions if someone could assist me????

You can buy that stuff at Menard's too. Less expensive also. No they could not just kick it in. Yes build a frame.

Glass blocks have inhherent weaknesses, but the mortar isn't one of them.Shim the block so it's centered. Lay a thick bead of mortar along the bottom, push it to the wall-center with a wood block and fill in from both inside and out. If the shim's exposed, remove it and refill the void. fill the sides, removing shims as you go, then the top. Remove excess mortar and let set.
The weak point is, of course, the glass itself. If poorly made, it will break as easily as plate glass and be a REAL pain to replace.

I have to agree with you, sounds pretty weak, but then someone could kick in a window upstairs, or pick a lock, or. I think you might be more concerned if it will hold out rain and snow.
