The American cowboy is an icon of this great country and I for one would hate to see them gone. It is a job that romances life on the open. And I still enjoy wearing my cowboy hat while driving my old pickup truck to get hay for the horses at home.
And if you really want to try to drive them out of town while beating them with sticks, go for it... but be prepared for it when they hog tie you and drag you around.

Sounds like you have a personal beef with the cowboy or concept there of. Not sure what part of the country you may reside, but there are plenty of open ranges. But if you never venture far from the city, then you probably wouldn't ever notice. If you are talking about the Urban Cowboy hold overs from late 70's and 80's, then sure, have you way with them.

Yes, we do. Some ranches out west still keep cattle on the open range. There are still large unfenced open areas where cows are allowed to roam. A cowboy may just as often use a motorcycle or a 4wd truck or jeep to get around, but the job is still necessary.

Personally I like nothing better than riding on the back of a horse, a trusty steed, a bucking bronco, ol' paint and Mr. Glue Factory chewing on a piece of beef jerky, pemmican, carne seca, rawhide, while strapped to the back of my cowboy, vaquero, lone ranger, mustang man, marlboro man, my home on the range, where have all the cowboys gone looking at the sunset while chewing our tobaccy and talkin about the good ol days yall know the days that were good and old, much like that rawhide I'm still a chawin' on after all these years. Heck yes... We still cowboys though I perfer the term "Cow Men"

yes there are such things as cowboys, if you knew anything about farm life you would know that cows aren't put into "little pens" they are put out to pasture, and cowboys have to herd them, why don't you research it a little bit before you assume things, and just so you know, cowboys are hot!

I don't think anyone really needs them, but I guess it's just a part of white people's culture.
