its because of the way our plumbing developed, we used to have immersion system heating which meant all the hot water was stored in a hot tank...which took a few hours to warm up enough hot water for a bath.

so, you wouldn't want to waste it by running it all off through a mixer tap.

It's a mystery isn't it? Why in the 21st century, whenever someone decides to outfit a bathroom, don't they just automatically get a mixer tap?

I've never understood it either...

Because we like it that way? Cobblers do we! Every tap I have ever bought was a mixer tap!

I don't believe it's a euro thing. It's a brit thing. I think it has a lot to do with cheapness and penny pinching actually, especially in a workplace setting or public amenity. A pair of cheapie single taps are probably less expensive than a mixer tap.

Some bathrooms have French-style mixer taps now, but there is nothing wrong with the traditional style of tap. The temperature is regulated by the heating thermostat.

You can have a mixer tap if you wish but UK bath sinks are usually a bit on the small side (for face washing etc) and so a mixer tap would actually get in the way.

Plus ...... because we want to & we're bright enough to mix our own hot/cold water in the sink to the temp we require :O)

You mean a mixer tap? Some do, we're just tough enough to cope with extreme heat or cold! :)

What, those stupid systems where you only have one long tap thing that goes left or right for hot and cold? I prefer what we've got, ta!

So you can have hot water or cold water duh! or hot and cold at the same time. I hate those com bi taps that are getting popular, they are rubbish! You get burnt by one part and frozen by another. They don't combine the water it just comes out of the same hole
