Short answer: yes, it is the American school system. And very specifically, education went down hill rapidly once the teachers' unions took over. This is not just my prejudice; check all the relevant statistics, and disprove my thesis if you can. (You can't.)

I Wonder why 3-4 Americans recently were announced that won the Nobel Prize?
People in general is not stupid for the reason of the American school system. People behave stupid because it is an easy way to avoid responsibilities.
