why did they invent laptops when computers were just as helpfull

because desktop computers were not desgned to be portable. your have to bring a team of sherpas if you were planning on a business trip with a desktop computer.
oringinally it was for people who worked in the field to make it easier to write reports. The TRS-80 Model 100 comes as close to it as you will ever get in 1983. Running on 4 AA batteries, it was popular with newspaper reporters and made filing stories from the field much easier, provided they had access to a telephone line.

When they invented internet poker, they thought of laptops. Tired of getting fed up being folded every time they needed to pee, they decided, 'what if we could take our computer to the toilet?' After sitting with a PC on their lap whilesitting peeing, they decided that it was heavy, and they couldn't reach down to wipe, and the laptop was invented.....

A laptop is, of course a computer, but they were invented for the likes of me who like to sit in a comfortable armchair with it on my knee, cup of tea on the coffee table beside me answering questions on answers.
They are also portable and run on batteries, can you take your computer to the park in the sunshine to work?

The super rich, and the business people.
The fact that the price has come down enough for normal people to afford them means nothing. They were originally aimed at business people on the move.

Same reason they invented mobile 'phones, for poseurs and yuppies! Of course over time, costs have come down and we create "valid" reasons for their existence - such as the McDonalds "convenience" lifestyle! (You used to have to work hard at getting fat, you know!)

Because of demand posed by workoholics who wanted to tick keyboards even sitting on a toilette.
Fortunately now there are handhelds, that don't burn your lap when you've got your pants down.

Because they are portable and come in very handy for traveling business people. They can be easily plugged in to be used in hotels.
