My husband and I are separating and I am going to need a roommate-he informed me that I can not have a male -and thta if I get a female to move in -she is not allowed to have her boyfriend over---reason? because I would be an unfit mother-he will take my 5 y/o son
I think that would be discrimination-if I had a male roommate-and wrong for a female to not be allowed to have her boyfriend over??
I need to know what the laws are---so websites or info are appreciated

he can not tell you who can be your roommates. If you get a boyfriend and move in together, your ex still can't do anything. He is trying to control you in anyway possible, and its a good thing you are getting rid of him. If he takes you to cort to say you are un unfit mother, then he will have to have solid proof that your roomates are harming your child.

First of all, if you are seperated, he can't tell you how to live your life. Secondly, what kind of roommate would be most comfortable for you and your son. Thirdly, A woman that is trying to provide and take care of her son, wouldn't be deemed unfit in the eyes of the law. Almost never does a judge take a child from the mother, unless serious issues such as abuse or drug additions. Forget about your SEPERATED husband, just live and love your son the best way you know how.

Oh stop it. How petty can you get? No, your 5 year old son does NOT need to be exposed to unmarried women dragging men home! No, your son does not need to see unmarried couples coming out of the same bedroom rogether. No, your son does NOT need to be exposed to strange men that you don't even know in his own house, after having to suffer the destruction of his family. And no, your son does NOT need to see mom living with another man, roommate or otherwise.
I mean, use some common sense and have some compassion for the child. I agree with your husband, and I think the same rule applies to him: no women, no dates, no sleepovers!
Don't you people want to protect your son from any more emotional damage, or is it all about being petty and getting your way? Laws don't matter- being decent and protecting your son matters.

Legal separation (sometimes "separate maintenance," or "divorce from bed-and-board") is a possible step towards divorce under the laws of many states. A couple is legally separated only if the couple has successfully petitioned a court to recognize their separation; simply living apart does not constitute separation for these purposes.
Legal separation does not automatically lead to divorce. The couple may reconcile, in which case they need do nothing in order to remain married. If they do not reconcile, and wish to divorce after the statutory time period, they must file for divorce explicitly.
A period of legal separation may constitute grounds for divorce. Some states within the United States require separation before divorce. The required period of separation before filing for divorce varies.
A decree of legal separation in most states declares married parties to be separate persons financially, and without responsibility for the other’s support, debts or taxes, except as ordered by the decree. You are absolutely free to do what you want to do except remarry.
In some states sex with is still considered adultery.

What you need to do is get a lawyer. ASAP! And I have dealt with the same thing and trust me, there is nothing he can do about it. All the courts care about is that the child is healthy, fed, has a clean house and is taken care of. Thats all. They don't care that your husband is pissed at you and wants to scare you, they don't have time for that ****. My ex did that and the judge told him to quit wasting his time and money cause they don't care about that stuff. DOn't worry dear he is an *** just let him blow steam. DOn't fight with him and if you record convos then tell him, cause they wont use it if you don't tell him, it is invasion of privacy. But call a child custody attornery in your area. And good luk to you and your son, unfortunatly you might have along road. I am sorry that you have to go thorugh this.

Speaking as a separated woman, there are two reasoning I agree with your husband; 1. your child should not she you with another man(even for a reason such as this) unless it is something serious. Children see enough on television and you want to protect him. . female- if she has a boyfriend then he should not be visiting because this is not her home. You have a child to think of and HIS well being. And why would you jeopardize your son 's tomorrow for your temporary situation.

During a divorce he has some say over where his kids stay. Talk to your lawyer.

My friend's husband had it stated in the separation papers that she could not be at a male friend's house between the hours of 7pm and 7am, nor could he be at her house those hours.

SEE A LAWYER! You absolutely need legal advice on this one. The lawyer will know the laws in your state and how the courts work. Follow his/her advice and let your husband blow it out his ear.

You should not let a man move in with you. It will ruin the child.
