I have tried to upload a PDF picture 3 times. After 30 minutes I get frustrated and start over. Should it take this long or am I doing something wrong?

It depends on the size of the file you're trying to upload.
on a 56 kbit connection, you can assume that your upload rate is nearly 3-4 KBytes/s.
for example if you want to upload a 400KB file with dial-up it takes
400K/4K = 100s or nearly 2 minutes to upload the file.

but if you want to become sure that you are uploading something
double click on the two-PC icon of your dial-up connection located in the right part of the taskbar(i.e. in tray).
in the appeard window, in the bottom left part you can see the ammunt of Bytes that are being sent.
if that number is increasing by for example 4000 each second, so you are uploading the file.

by the way, see if you can decrease the size of your picture so it takes less time to upload.

smaller pics upload faster.

★★ SPEED UP DIALUP ★★

◙ If you have a dialup internet connection there are several things you can do to make it faster.

◙ A NORMAL 56KB CONNECTION

◙ Get and internet service provider that has a firewall on their server as part of the service. If you have a firewall installed on your own computer disbale it and use the one on their server. This will speed it up some.

◙ Scan for viruses, trogans, worms, spyware, adware, malware everytime before connecting to the internet. This will speed it up even more.

◙ Click on START BUTTON > CONTROL PANEL > MODEM SETTINGS. In there look for a dropdown menu with your modem speed in it. If it is set at 56kb and there is one for 112kb click on that. If this causes trouble go back to 56kb.

◙ HIGH SPEED DIALUP CAN BE AS MUCH AS 3 TIMES FASTER THAN NORMAL DIALUP

If its of reasonable size, under 100kb it should only take a minute or so. Check your photo size... if its huge why bother your page won't load very fast and people will skip by you.
