I think the point is worker safety. If Billy Bob comes to work high and drops something on a customer while restocking shelves, that customer can sue.
Personally I think it's a load of BS. I has to take one to work at Best Buy. Who the hell cares if a TV salesman is high. Or a professional athlete. Let's start drug testing doctors, lawyers, politicians, teachers, medical personell, firefighters and the police. Oh wait, then we would have any decent doctors, lawyers, politicians, teachers, medical personell, firefighters or police.

Okay. This could turn in to a heated debate, which i would love to see all the arguments to. But employers drug test to screen out potentially unwanted employees. Not just because they are a liability to the company, but because the person can hurt themselves too.
I care if the people that are helping me are sober, i wouldnt want somebody drugged up, telling me what to buy, when they may have no idea what they're selling to me. Besides, if you take your job seriously enough, you should have more brains to figure out, its not welcomed in the workplace.
Also, the only way you CAN get away with testing positive, is if you are prescribed medicinal marijuana. You have to have a certificate, signed by the doctor for it. I have one, but i have never used it. Dont care for it.
And the medicinal marijuana is commonly used for diseases that really do not have a cure yet. My father has Multiple Sclerosis, a disease that attacks the central nervous system. Scary scary thing to have. As it grows progressively worse, it can put you in a wheelchair, as well as many other things.
Doctors will prescribe it for that too, because it calms you down, and it helps stop the spasms brought on by this disease.
So I believe it should not be in your system unless you really need it medicinally.
Other than that, there is no use for drugs in the workplace, or drug addicts. And No people, its not just because they can hurt others, but usually they steal. Trust me
I worked with a guy that was always hyped up on speed, and he was terrible. He had no idea what he was doing anymore, hopping from one subject/task to the next, and getting angry with his coworkers because we didnt understand him or his actions. And to make it even better, he gave $500 in merchandise to two girls because he was high and thought he was slick.
He ended up being turned in by a good sumaritan (the girls mom) and he was terminated. HE DESERVED IT. The guy was a screw up....There ya go. thats my explanation for your question
cheers!!

Weed can open your mind, dude. They don't want that, so the government creates anti-weed propaganda (which for some reason seems to make weed out to be worse than coke, huh!) so that companies will drug test the employees. Its a conspiracy man!
