just inform them that "this is a Library, not a play ground. other people, including me, expect peace and quiet. so, staighten up or leave."
maybe they will be so shocked that someone ACTUALLY SAID what everyone else was thinking that they really WILL either shut up or leave! :)

I completely get where youre coming from. I was on the 3rd floor of my campus library which is the designated 'no talking no cell phone independent study' floor and some guy was walking around talking on his cell phone and two girls at the table next to me were playing on one computer and talking to each other. I finally looked at them and told them that this is a quiet floor. What happened to the whole library being quiet? If you cant go 25 minutes without your cell phone go hang out at the student center some of us are trying to read or do research!

I was working as a Circ aide throughout college and there's no such thing as quiet in a public library. It would be loud a majority of the time. But maybe that's because I was working in the city. I mean we need security

people can be so rude, I mean I am in my school library right now I have head phones on listaning to music and such and I have my cell phone off, I would talk to the people at the front counter about it, I don't understand people. I bet in your library it says turn cell phones off and no talking, Just like mine and no one here listans to the rules either

I feel your pain. I'm really tired of loud cellphone users and even louder children in libraries. I'm not sure what to do about it, though, aside from embarrassing them by reporting them to the librarian.
