Do you have a local spa/pool store? They sell complete water care kits and will often check a sample of your water for free and give you advice on how to take care of yours!

The key is to test the water and have the PH balanced and keep the chemical levels at proper amounts. Too high or too low PH and too high or too low of the chemical you are using to kill bacteria (chlorine, baquacil, bromine, etc...) will ruin the spa and the water.

The worst thing for water in a jacuzzi or pool is sunlight and heat. you must use chlorine daily to fight off the algae and other crap that builds up. Pool places have bottles of chlorine pills or tablets that do a good job and they can guide you to the right maintenance and correct ph balance

make sure your chlorine or bromine level is adequate, there is also a liquid called clarifier that you can get at your local water treatment store. You also need to control your Ph, hardness and alkalinity levels. There are test strips that tells you level of those parameters in your water.
