crude oil is an important source of chemicals that can be btained by fractional distillation and sebsequent cracking isomerisation and reforming

Cracking is important because it makes more gasoline available. It takes larger carbon chains and breaks them into useful for gasoline. Usually these are branched chains which cars like better. This process would also make more ends available for petrochemicals. Isomerisation just means reforming , the remaking of carbon chains the length that is needed.
