I really need to pass my emissions inspection in GA. My car is fine, other than my "check engine light" is on. Does anyone know how to turn off the light (this allows my car to pass). Thanks.
Its a 99 Ford Taurus SE.

Thanks

You should be able to unplug your battery, leave it unplugged for about 10-15 minutes and plug it back in...that will probably work. However, I know in NJ, some cars are subject to an ECU reading. Even if your light is off, the computer will find it after they plug it in. Even if they don't, if your light is coming on, they will most likely find out via the emissions test anyway...they won't even have to see the light.

You can go to Advance or Auto-Zone and get the codes read (same thing they may do at DMV) for free. You may be able to fix the problem yourself iwth a little help from the guys that run the test.

Have a mechanic or a friend with a code-reader read the codes to see what is wrong. Most states will run a code check as part of the inspection process so just suppressing the warning light won't always get you a pass on your inspection.

go to an auto parts store and have them put it on a diagnostic machine its small and it will read the code for you and tell you what the problem is they also can reset your service engine light I had a chevy lumina did the same to me and I just reset the light good luck
