They have lungs, a muscular diaphragm and a pleural cavity that expands through the contraction of intercostal muscles just like we do, with breathing passages leading to mouth and nostrils just like ours.
This respiratory system is common to all mammals, and the use of lungs is a feature of all terrestrial vertebrates as well (i.e. frogs, lizards, snakes, turtles, birds and mammals).

Oh gawd, yes. Days before cable. Only got a few channels, and sometimes Captain Kangaroo was all there was... Didn't you ever get the feeling the guys on that show were tanked most of the time? Still, CK did not creep me out like Mr Rodgers. Not sure why, but even as a little one, got a bad vibe from Mr. R.

Well, they respire in the same way as you do. Their diaphram contracts and then there is a puling from the thoracic cavity and then air will rush in to the lungs where it contacts the alveoli. There that is where gas exchange occurss, O2 in and CO2 out. There is an enormous amount of surface are in the lungs and this is how they are able to get a lot of oxygen. When they exhale, the diaphragm acts to make the thoracic cavity come back in and the air is pushed out containing mostly CO2 and some 02.
