Back in the caveman days, do you think anyone complained if someone went to the bathroom inside the cave, or do you think they did it outside?
Was the one who complained a woman, or were they to insignificant to say anything about what went on in the cave?

I'm guessing someone did it once, it could have been a man, it could have been a woman. But everyone complained, and they all left the cave. And that cave became the bathroom for everyone. Until, that it, it became too full or the small became unbearable.

Most animals will find a place away from their den or bedding to take care of business, mothers will carry away leavings from their young.(the smell might attract predators)
By "cavemen" I'm not sure if you mean homo sapiens or Neanderthals which co existed for a short period about 140,000 to 150,000 years ago. But even the Neanderthals were much more developed than there given credit for. From finds all over Europe and Asia its apparent that they cared for the elderly burred there dead with care and even placed flowers in the graves. there tool making was a bit primitive but better than I could do If required to make stone tools. But if someone couldn't complain about leaving the lid up I'm sure there was something else to ***** about

they would have gone outside the cave to do their business - most intelligent animals wouldnt - dogs wont go inside if they can help it, and chimpanzees have been known to fashion a toilet out of bark. Not sure about pigs though.

But yes if it were either sex then it would have probably bee a woman.

as most animal behaviorists will tell you, it is an instinctive act ....
you don't poop where you live is an axiom for most land animals...it attracts predators, parasites, diseases....
whether male or female is moot....
a woman's menses, however, probably was a different matter...
as blood attracts predators far greater than "waste" material...but, to put a woman "outside" the cave would have endangered the growth of the group....probably the start of a woman being "unclean" and untouchable

Believe it or not there are books on the subject.

The earliest ettiquette books discuss in detail the protocal for taking leave of yourself in the room you are in. They used to cover the floor with straw and there was a certain number of days that straw could stay in place before it had to be disposed of. FYI, the books were written by men.
