Are you thinking about Animal Farm by George Orwell? It was a satire on the Cold War where the animals kicked out the farmer and his family and obsessively ran the farm themselves.

I'm going to second (third?) the answer of Animal Farm, although Charlotte's Web is also an excellent childrens book about talking animals who don't talk to adults.

Do you remember anything about the plot or which animals were the main characters? That would really help us give the best answer.

If you read it as a child, then "Charlotte's Web" is the book that I think it might be. In that story, basically the reason animals don't talk to adults is because the adults won't take the time to listen, like children will.

In Gulliver's Travels, Gulliver meets the Houyhnhnms, who are horses, who believe that humans are uncouth and unworthy and want nothing to do with us. The Houyhnhnms call humans Yahoos, because of the way in which we shout. This is where the internet company Yahoo got its name.

real life? i have never heard of this story, but looking
around, i question why any creature would want to
communicate with a species which thinks it is the
only one in the universe with a brain.
