They really are not prevented by using cocoa butter. My ob said it is in your genes. I didn't get any until my last month! It sucked. I weighed 125.

I am in the same boat as you. I just recently had my second child. I faithfully used Palmer's Cocoa Butter & Cream, Oil and Almond Butter. It works. But it depends on your genes. If your mom had them then most likely you would too.
I had started off with both pregnancy at my weight of 125 gained about 34 pds for both children and got very little strech marks on my sides of my hips. That is it. You just make sure you do it everyday. Every time you get out of the shower or bath.
Do it everywhere arms, legs, breast, belly everything. I seen some woman that get strech marks every where. Don't look to good but they probably didnt take care of their skin.
Another tip is the soap you use. Make sure you get the body wash with either cocoa butter os shea butter. Like Tone.
Your skin needs to moisturized constanlty.
Enjoy your pregnancy. So try not to stress about your body, because you are creating a beautiful angel. Pregnancy is fun & the most beautiful thing a woman can do.
Good Luck!

I was around 30 weeks when i developed stretch marks and i used palmers cocoa butter lotion everyday, twice a day and still got nasty stretch marks. I have them all over my breasts, all over my tummy, on my hips, down the front of my thighs and behind my knee caps. I was 125 pounds pre pregnancy and i gained 70 pounds by the end of my pregnancy. I now weight 135 pounds. Lotions DO NOT reduce or prevent stetch marks, they only aid in the reducion of itchy skin due to the stretching of skin. Good luck!!

I started to get stretch marks around the 5th month (I was devastated!) And they're just getting worse! I'm 29 weeks now and they're getting pretty bad. I later up in the Palmer's cocoa and shay butter lotion all the time, but it doesn't seem to help. It's in your genes if you are going to get them or not. It has to do with the elasticity of your skin. Chances are, if your mom or grandma got them, you will too (no matter what size you are).

I too am quite small, about 113 lbs, and I've had 2 children.
Both times I carried very small and, like you, people didn't really notice until around 7 months!! I never got large - probably just looked like a bad case of IBS!! Consequently the skin on my stomach didn't need to stretch very much at all, so I never got any stretch marks.
On the other hand, a girlfriend of mine who is about the same build as me but shorter, has had 3 children and she carried big each time. With her first child she was HUGE, but her skin was fine.........until they allowed her to go over her due date. At the very end (about 10 days overdue) she had to be induced anyway, but by then had stretch marks. She wasn't very happy about it!! Particularly as they could have just induced her on her due date and she wouldn't have had the stretch marks.
I think it also depends on your skin. If you have very stretchy skin, you stand a better chance of no stretch marks than someone whose skin is more dry. So I think it could be worth slapping on that cocobutter, just in case. But it still might not make a difference either way.
I think a lot of it is just down to good or bad fortune really. Hopefully, luck will swing your way.
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

Hello. I'm 7 months pregnant with my first baby too, and I just started noticing a few stretch marks on my hip area, but not on my belly. I started using Palmer's cocoa butter for stretch marks AS SOON as I found out I was pregnant, for preventative reasons. I was also 115 pounds when I first found out I was pregnant. However, I failed to put the cocoa butter on my sides and was obessed with putting it on my stomach, and now I got stretch marks on my sides and not on my stomach. So please put it everywhere!!! I'm attacking my sides now, I hope its not too late! Good luck and Congratulations!!

Stretch marks are inherited. Its based on how your skin is programmed genetically to stretch. Some women get almost no stretch marks at all, others get them bad. Check with your mom and see how bad she got them. Thats a pretty fair way to tell how bad it will be for you.
You generally dont get them until the very last month of pregnancy, when you grow the biggest the fastest and your skin cant keep up.

I was told it is hereditary. I was 125lbs before I got pregnant and I got bad stretch marks in my 7th month. I religiously slathered plamers cocoa butter stretch mark cream twice daily starting at 3 months, didnt do anything. Its a marketing strategy.
There are no studies to prove these creams and lotions do anything but moisturize your skin. Some women get them, some women dont :) Hopefully you are one of the lucky few and you dont get them :)
Keep putting it on, it smells fantastic and it does temporarily hydrate your skin (but nothing more) :)
