National Resources Defense Council is a good one although they and GreenPeace are a little on the liberal side. If you think Bush caused Katrina and every other environmental problem they do a good job. I don't like many of Bush's environmental policies and although I am more conservative than liberal, I belong to NRDC.

Another very good one is Union of Concerned Scientists. They don't seem to lean either way politically. You don't have to be a scientist to join and they have a number of ways to stay informed by what scientists are doing and learning (and what many people are ignoring). I am a member of this organization too. Excellent group.

Sierra above is also good.

I'd go to www.charitynavigator.com and read the evaluation of these and others and choose the one or ones that fit you.

the Sierra club is a good one to join.
Great magazine, and they certainly fight for environmental rights and legislation, without being a terrorist group.
