My ex husband finally left a month ago but since then I havent received a penny for our 10 year old. I am on benefit now so money is tight. I dont want to go to the CSA unless I have to but I have no idea how much to ask for. Does it depend on ex's earnings? he is in between jobs just now.

If his not working than maybe a fiver-tenner a week better than nothing. When he goes back to work, ask for £30-40 a week.. although if you are on benefits and you get cash in hand and benefit agency find out you could be in trouble.

Thing with CSA if your not working is... they wont pay you the full amount they take from him.. you get an extra £10-£12 on top of your benefits even when he pays them more than triple that a week.

You have to go through the CSA I'm afraid unless you can come to a mutual decision. The CSA will take into account his wages, outgoings and take money directly from his pay to give to you.

Plus, if you go through the CSA because he is in between jobs you may still be able to benefit from some money even if he is not working.

If you can keep it mutual and he does actually pay you, which seems doubtful if you havent had anything for 10 years, then try it that way, but personally the CSA should be your first step to getting child benefits that are rightfully yours. Good luck.

As your on benefit when you next make a fresh claim, you will be made to fill in a csa claim... unless you can prove that by filling in the form you or your son will be in danger..

I pay £330 for my two each month but as i have them with me over 100 days a year it is reduced to £220.

It depends on Disposible income after living costs are taken out so a man on £100,000 could pay less than a man on £20,000
PS
good luck the system is a shambles even for people who give all required info on time and in the correct order,

Texting is private and intimate. Texting is the perfect way to create a private and intimate world between you and the man or woman in your life. Learn here https://tr.im/9XJcA
For women in particular, texting can end up being a fun “game” where they can do or say anything (even things they would never do in the “real” world). Texting is non confrontational. Odds are your relationship ended on a heated note. I don’t know why you and your ex broke up, but there was probably at least one (if not a few dozen) big fights. Done properly (the way I’m going to teach you), texting is simple and subtle. You can slowly feed your ex tested and proven messages and ideas without the risk of either one of you flying off the handle, falling back into old and destructive patterns, and throwing plates at each other.

Go on CSA website. There is a calculator that you can work out how much he should be providing for your son.
Good Luck.

Ask your ex what he can afford, whatever he decides he can pay you the benefits agency will reduce your benefits by that amount,
so maybe best not getting onto CSA they will eventually contact your ex themselves

i asked my ex for 150 pound a month he seemed happy with that. but dont forget you will lose your income support so you might want to ask enough to cover that which is what, 160 month.
