Has society harden you so much that you don't open your door for the kiddies?

The reason I asked is because Halloween just doesn't seem the same. When I was a kid, you could just go out with some friends and trick or treat til about 10pm. Now it seems a little scarier. I take youngest son to the mall where they give out candy.

I always open my door for trick or treaters it's not the same as it used to be but if they r with an adult i get them to come in and i make them dunk for apples ie cath them with their teeth out of a basin of water if they have make up or face paint i allow them to use a fork i also get them to tell a joke or rhyme or sing a song to earn their treats. It is a shame that due to the society we live in a lot of the traditions have been lost not only with halloween but also on many other celebrations.x

No, it hasn't. The Dude has been lucky enough to have been in his neighbouhood for close to a decade and have watched my neighbours children grow up around the block.

They all know the Dude is cool and come Halloween, candy is plentiful.

I feel bad when I hear of nieghbourhoods where people don't know each other.

I do. I just do not leave the candy out if I am not around. I have seen a few neighbors do it and the bowl is always empty. First group of high school kids usually do a number on it.

West Virginia is 93% White and the rural Appalachian part of West Virginia is 99.7% White. There aren't many trick-or-treaters out here, but I don't think I'd have any problems with them if there were.

We aren't scared of opening the door. The way we do it here is, we both go out with our kids and half way through, one of us come home (usually me, this is his fav. holiday) and pass out candy. Our kids still have the same fun that I did as a child.
