Every area of Canada is different, and every area will have it's cheering section. Canada is such a wonderfully diversified country, that it is hard to pick a "best".

Newfoundland and Labrador are the most rugged areas of Canada. There are a lot of areas that have been compared to the Fjords of Norway in majesty and beauty. The people are always willing to welcome newcomers into their communities, and will use any excuse to party. And they just love their music. They grow up singing and playing and learning to enjoy life as it comes.

The East Coast is just like the New England states in the U.S., except our islanders are not taciturn like your Yankees. They genuinely love meeting strangers and learning all about them, as can be proved by the way they opened their homes to the families of the Swissair victims in 1998. Or again, taking in all those stranded American bound passengers when aircraft were diverted and the borders closed on 9-11.

Quebec is like another world. If you can't afford to go to Paris, you can get a very good idea of what it feels like by visiting either Quebec City or the old town in Montreal.

Ontario has everything from the Niagara wine region in the south, to the sub-arctic regions of James Bay. And thousands of lakes. Ontario is the most densely populated of the provinces, and yet you see miles upon miles of undisturbed forests that is a hunting, fishing, hiking enthusiasts paradise.

Manitoba has the northern boundaries of the Red River Valley, along with TWO of the biggest freshwater lakes in the North American continent.

Saskatchewan is our true prairie province, where most of our grain farming is done. In the southern half of the province the land is flat, and you can see for absolute miles in any direction. It is a true "big sky country". Yet in the north, it is still heavily forested and mountainous (not Rocky high of course) and has hundreds of lakes and rivers that provide excellent fishing.

Alberta is the richest province in Canada with it's Tar Sands. Half of the province is covered by the Rocky Mountains. The other half is rolling prairie. Cattle ranches abound. The biggest dinosaur park in North America is located in the southern high desert region of the province.

British Columbia is mountainous and forested, and most of the aging hippy population lives there. Seriously, you will find more health enthusiasts per square inch than anywhere else in the world.

The Northwest Territories share our Northern Boundary with Nunavut. These are a lot like Alaska in temperature. The high native populations make visiting them a must for the culture alone.

Well having lived in the 3 biggest cities in Canada and being from Toronto, I'd have to say that Toronto is the best city to live in based on the convenience of it all. Not to take anything away from places such as Vancouver or Montreal, let alone the Maritimes and Prairies, but Toronto has the convenience of a city like New York. Ok, so the 401hwy sucks, and it is pretty much a busy city, it has everything you need. Montreal, you need to speak french to get a job, fun place though. Vancouver, very cool and laid back, snowboard and swim in the same day. Calgary and Edmonton, growing rapidly. Maritimes, friendly people, lots of snow. The Praries...well you'd better be a farmer...and the Territories...you'd better like the dark and cold. I sound like a sales person giving you a pitch for Toronto, but come and visit and you'll see.

Montreal. It is an island with a mountain (OK, it's a really big hill) right in the center of it. It has a great nightlife and it is multicultural without the ghettos like Toronto.
