I have no knowledge of sprinkling systems and have never done it before. Is this something that can be done by one person? What are the best resources that I can look into? I can't afford a professional to come and do it. I appreciate any help at all! thanks!

f you want to build a manual system where you use taps to turn on the system or you 'click' on a hose, you can do it with some advice on water pressure in your area (indicates how many spray heads etc you can run at one time). Just get some advice and a plan from you local irrigation shop or large garden centre. Depending on how mechanical you are once you get into automated systems with wire and solenoids if you don't do it properly you will have problems, heads not working because they're not wired up correctly can mean digging up the whole wiring and correcting.

You will also have to check with your local Council regarding taping into the Council mains where the water enters your property (increases your water pressure rather than using your normal taps for supply). This usually has to be done by a qualified plumber who installs valves so soil from your irrigation pipes does not enter the Council water supply.

To get the best set up you will need to have someone who knows, design you a system. If you decide it is too big a project for you to do the whole lot it is still simple to do the easy parts eg manual system to a garden bed with spray heads, this will at least get some beds watered without much effort after its installed. Very basic stuff is easy to install yourself with a bit of manual labour. Hope this helps.

Hey There!
About a few months ago, I thought about putting sprinkler system in my front yard. If you get the right knowledge off the net you'll know what you doing. I sent the design of my front yard to TORO DESIGN and I had them show me what kind of sprinkler and parts I needed. Well when I called them for some questions they weren't real knowledgeable about that. But heres what I would do if I were you.....

E-mail this guy I know that I have done business with. He is really nice and really reasonable. He will design your yard for free and give you a good rate on his products (Best quality). Like I said just send the design of your yard, the gallons per minute form the hose at full blast, and the PSI. His e-mail address is sprinklersupplyonline@comcast.net . If you deal with him, tell him that whitestripes recommended him.
GOOD LUCK!!!!

It would be hard for a frist timer. You have to do a lot of digging and will need to know about electrical wiring. You need to know about the PSI pressure for the proper size PVC.... it just goes on from there.

I've heard it's very easy to do. Talk to the people at your local building supply store where you would be purchasing the equipment and they should be able to help you out alot.
