Do you prefer to deal with the companies website, or do you want to deal with a 3rd party place that has a lot of competition like ebay or amazon? As a percentage, how many purchases are made at the companies actual web site vs. somewhere else?

Amazon.com, eBay, bidz, cbd, barnes and noble, jcpenney, vermont country store, shoeline...those are all that come immediately to mind.
I would have to say I shop eBay than anyone else.

I find eBay to be more competitive and also there have been some rather obscure items that I purchased (oop Discovery games being the one that comes to mind), eBay was the only place I could find them.

It really depends on what I'm buying. Because I don't like buying things online from companies I don't know about, I will typically buy from Amazon or EBay with items that come from unknown sites. If it is something from a trusted manufacturer I will simply be detirmined by the price.

I have bought a lot of things through Ebay. I can find the same items for less cost even with shipping figured in.
The stand alone sites are OK- I check them out for comparison in price but if I can find the exact same thing that's new and in the original box for say $50-$75 less that's what I go with.

Happy shopping and have a great day!!!

I use eBay, but I never use PayPal. Almost all my purchases online are eBay purchases from sellers who accept payment by mail. I sometimes buy books with a credit card from Amazon, but usually I shop on eBay. I've ordered only such items from company websites that eBay and Amazon won't carry because of their policies (e.g., weapons).

I like to start with www.bizrate.com which allows me to price comparison shop including shipping costs. The users rate the business and I try to use a well rated business that is a low or lowest cost for the product I want. For airline tickets I usually shop on a multi-carrier site, then actually buy the ticket on the airline's host site.

I would think that well known online stores such as ebay, amazon, and wal-mart would be more trust-worthy.
