I do not consume caffeine or products with caffeine in it. Ever since I got regnant with my 1st child 8 years ago, I have stopped and I never looked back! I have lived a normal and healthy life without it, and my kids will do the same! As far as addictions, my mom was hooked on Pepsi and Asprin for the caffeine for MANY years!! It is a very addictive drug on it's own and needs no assistance from any other drugs! Coffee, Tea, Pop, Asprin, and Caffeine Pills all have the same effect on our nervous systems, the effects are not good!! Here I found a site for you to read up on!! Good Luck!!

I wouldn't say caffeine is a gateway drug, otherwise half of America would be hooked on cocaine. However, caffeine is like sugar. It gives you a rise in energy, but then your energy dips down to lower than it was before. So then you need another dose. This can cause problems in school, as it is easy enough to fall asleep during class. Drinking it too late in the afternoon can cause sleep problems, which can also lead to problems with school and possibly work. I also knew one teenager whose heart started beating too rapidly for no other reason than caffeine. I can't remember all the problems it caused him, but I remember he was uncomfortable.
An occasional cup is fine, but I wouldn't let my kids drink more than a couple per week. And if I saw any sign of addiction, it would be gone!

There is caffeine in soda, tea, chocolate and many other food products. Coffee can be addictive in that withdrawal can cause severe headaches. You would really have to drink gallons to have this problem.
Coffee will not lead to other addictions.

Not likely, but it does add extra liquid to the diet, and caffeine is good for keeping the bowels regular, which in today's society is not a bad thing, since most people seem to be constipated most of the time. I suggest you tell your kids that you prefer that they drink decaf, or half-caf if they are going to starbucks

coffee can only lead to other addictions if you let them. Know where they're at, and what they are doing.
Drinking coffee is just the replacement of soda for alot of teens. '
Just keep the facts straight with them. Let them know what's ok and what's not and keep reminding them. Trust me, they're remember.

It leads to alot of things. It rots your insides and yes you can get addicted. That's how those places like Starbucks stay in business. Not because new people want to try them out, but because people are addicted to that stuff and HAVE to have their coffee. Caffeine is a drug. If you take in alot of it then you will get addicted to it. That's why when people are depressed, doctors recommend consuming caffeine. It makes your brain "happy" and when your brain gets happy that's when it gets addicted. Not to mention it's bad for your heart, your organs, your teeth, ect.

Well let's see...I was drinking coffee when I was 12. I did get mildly addicted to cocaine in my early 20s. My daughter has been drinking coffee since she was 14, she became mildly addicted to other caffine products (pills) so I suppose coffee drinking could lead to other addictions. But so can beer drinking, cigarette smoking, eating, sleeping...breathing.

I let my daughter drink one cup of coffee a day. It has helped a lot with her asthma. She hasn't needed her inhaler since. I have never read where only one cup a day is harmful.
