In northern Minnesota they place those fake (but real looking) owls on top of telephone poles to discourage woodpeckers.

Pour vinegar and salt all over the wooden posts. I doubt they'll like the taste of that. Bonus points if you put hot sauce.

try covering the posts with metal sheeting or even thick aluminum. they'll avoid it and move on!

I throw wood chips at them, and it seems to keep them at bay. You can also try a BB gun set on one crank. This is just enough to scare them, but not to kill them.

Shoot them with a BB gun. You can also put salt on thier tail feathers.

well if you do not want to kill them then i would simply put some plants or somthing where they are landing.
