It is scary. it is common to start to get scared around the end. I just had my baby and it was my second and I was still scared.
It is hard to tell you what to expect because every labor is different. I can tell you to get to the hospital soon. Sooner is better than later. If you go to late you won't be able to get drugs. I don't know if you plan on using them but I highly reccomend it.
Usually you will go into labor at home. Stay at home at home for a while and keep in contact with your doctor. Then when it is time to go to the hospital...get your things and go.
I don't advise calling all your family and freinds right away. I would wait because when your contractions start coming more and more you really don't want all those people in your face. Just call the super improtant ones.
Your contractions will get closer closer and the pain will become more intense. You can ask for drugs when it becomes to much.
If you don't get any drugs...epidural...the contracts feel like they are one on top of the other. Like you don't get a break from the pain. They are super intense and really painful. You feel like you are helpless. Like no one can hlep you and you are just going to die any minute. Then you will feel the urge to push and well with mine the pain was so bad that instead of pushing and holdn gyour breath i was screaming...whihc i dont recommend because that takes longer. And then you just push it out. And i swear to you the minute that babys head is out it is such a relief it is unbelievable.
But it you get drugs. The pain is hardly felt. you may feel some pressure. you aren't screaming and yelling and wanting to kill eveery one who looks at you. YOu are calm and relaxed and you stop being scared because you aren't in any pain. Then when it comes time to push they hlep you out and you just push itout. It feels like pressure not pain.
The epidural is nothing. I was scared to get it the first time and with the second i did. It doesn't hurt. And if you hate needles trust me the tiny pinch you feel in your back is a thousand times better than those contractions. It doesn't hurt at all. And the relief comes almost immeidately. Not the numbness but they give you a boost of narcotics and that is what helps so fast and then with in 20 -30 min the numbness comes and you don't feel nothing. Its great.
So i hope this helps and good luck with baby.
If you want you can im me. I ll be happy to answer any questions.

It's normal to be a little scared. Try to relax. Your body knows what to do and it will come naturally to you. Sometimes your water will break and sometimes the doctor has to break it for you. Some people feel bad cramps for a long time and others don't have as long a labor. It is different for everyone. Don't let anyone scare you with horror stories. Yes it does hurt some, but in my personal experience it wasn't as bad as I was afraid it would be. Once the baby is born, it will all be worth it. I pray you will have a safe and easy delivery and be blessed with a beautiful and healthy baby.

Of course it normal to be scared your going to have a baby! I'm going to have my second child in 5 more months and i'm scared. It's ok, healthy and very normal to be afraid of the unknown. The contractions are the worse part getting an epidural will help tremendously with the pain, also it will help you rest some before you have to start pushing. Don't lye flat on your back in the bed it stops you from breathing properly and makes pain worse. Keep your bed elevated or lye on your side. Remember when it's all over your going to have a beautiful baby to show for all the hard work you have done bringing it into the world and it's all worth it!

really there is nothing to worry about. When the time comes it comes. Every persons labor is very different from anothers. Just remember that probably the worst "best pain" ever is from labor, because you know when all is said and done you will have a beautiful baby. Truly you forget the pain and that's why people have more kids. Good Luck and Congratulations!

It is a scary thing the first time, but all will be fine. It does hurt, soooo go for the epidural, which doesn't hurt too bad, felt like someone was pushing on a bruise. Just try to stay relaxed and focus on something when you are having a contraction. I looked right in my husbands eyes when I was having a contraction, and it helped. Take advantage of the tub if they have one, as that helps. AND, get yourself some witch hazel for your vagina after the baby is born. Put it in the fridge to cool and put on a recieving blanket and apply to your vagina, like a compress. Feels sooooo good, and takes all the pain and burning away. I had my bay in one of the best baby hospitals in canada, and they have witch hazel wet naps, but not too many peopl eknow about this remedy. Good luck and congradulations. It won't be as bad as you are expecting.

All I can say is that you have to learn to relax. The more relaxed you can get yourself during your labour, the shorter it will be.
Just go into the whole process with the knowledge that it will probably hurt like hell, but you aren't going to let it get you upset, because you know that at the end of it you'll have that wonderful baby to hold.
Relax, relax, relax. If you have favourite music, take your MP3 with you. If you know anything about meditation, practise this while in labour. Or walk. Walking the halls is actually a very good way of getting the process moving along properly and quickly.

Of course it is normal to be aprehensive before delivery. The most important thing to remember is to relax. I know that sounds crazy, but relaxing will help the baby do what it is supposed to do. You may have the urge to scream which is the worst, just let the body do what it will naturally do and you will soon enjoy the product that the last nine months have kept from you. Enjoy your motherhood and keep in mind that every labor and deliver is different.

AWWWWW! It is very normal. My advice to you is this. Have 1 coach, 1 person to focus on. Too many people in there can make it chaotic, and simply a zoo. Don't focus too much on the pain until the pain actually happens. Some women have children in 30 minutes, others 3 or more days. You will forget any discomfort when they put that baby in your arms. And the right doctor and nurses make all the difference.Don't be afraid to speak up..they are there to help you.Congratulations, and best of luck!

Yup, its scary. However, the nurses in the Maternity ward will help you every step of the way, and 90% of them know exactly how you are feeling, since they too have children. Just remember, that if the pain gets too bad, you can always ask for an epidural, or perhaps another painkiller. Try and stay relaxed, so the labour goes faster, and is less painful

I think every woman is scared the first time she is about to give birth. It's kinda scarey bc you don't know exactly what will happen. Just trust the doctors and nurses you have and listen to everything they tell you. They want to do what is best for you. I suggest getting an epidural. Labor is scarey enough without having to worry about all the pain. I got one and I didn't feel a thing. I just pushed and out she came. Best of luck to you.
