Help! I'm at he mature age of 25, and am currently on an access course. I am torn between doing nursing and paramedic science. I really ant to do the paramedic course the most, but it will mean i have to move away from home to do that course. I worry about who i live with, if they will all be 18 year olds, and if i will fit in. I could take the easier route and do nursing, and live at home, but it's i'm not as keen. Do i move away? Take a risk? Or see where nursing route takes me? Myabe i could get into the ambulance route with nursing, but it will be a longer road, and a less stimulating experience. Any help will be appreciated!!! :)

There's generally salary difference between being a paramedic & a nurse (nurses make more). Nurses are in great demand. If you finish your 2 years (nursing) & get certified, almost any hospital will pay for you to finish your BSN, & then you would make considerably more.

Be a nurse and work in the ER (that should satisfy your desire to handle the emergencies as paramedics do).

Nursing and paramedicine are two completely different careers. Nursing generally pays more, you get more regular hours, better work environment. A paramedic pays less, works odd hours, and has to work in all sorts of conditions. But, a paramedic has near total autonomy at work. He or she still has to call for some orders to give certain medications, but out in the field, it's just you and the patient. A nurse in the hospital doesn't have that kind of freedom or pressure. If I were you, I'd become a nurse (pays more, more job opportunities, and you won't have to move away) and become a paramedic later, if you still want to. It's harder to be a paramedic and try to become a nurse, than to be a nurse and try to become a paramedic. Either route you choose, there are paramedic to RN bridge programs and RN to paramedic bridge programs, but these are rare. It really comes down to which one you really, really want to do.
Hope this helps!

I'm somewhat in the same boat as you are. Here's what I've decided to do (I'm 19, btw). I'm going to go to Community College to become a Paramedic, and try that out for a few years working with a local city Fire Department. Granted, the pay isn't that extravagent, but one 24 hour shift, then coupled with a 48 hour off break sounds like an exciting schedule to me. Also, working for so many years with a Fire Department will reward you with a pension as well, so that is something to look forward to.

However, I understand that Paramedics face a high Burnout rate because of seeing children injured and death. On top of that, many Paramedics careers are cut short due to constant lifting of heavier patients. I'm looking to be a Paramedic for a few years to get a good grasp on Emergency Medicine, then perhaps go back to college to become an Emergency Room Nurse. Higher pay, better hours, and a controlled enviroment would be a welcome change once I've outlived my 20's.

i'd rather be a Medic. i understand Medics do no longer make as much as Nurses yet you could think of approximately how long modern-day EMS has been around. maximum persons do no longer understand this yet beforehand of the late 1960's, funeral properties centers would p.c.. human beings up in a hearse and rigidity human beings to the wellbeing center. You did no longer get the mini wellbeing center on wheels that we get now.. the factor i'm attempting to make is that EMS continues to be in its infancy. Prehospital drugs hasn't been around that long so as quickly as we extra beneficial take care of on a nationwide point we are able to extra beneficial our status as a real profession, and with that the pay would boost. Nursing would supply you various sub specialites as quickly as you attain the masters degree point. while EMS is notably plenty a mainline profession until you artwork in a non classic place. the entire purpose is to offer the affected person the excellent care and its in the wellbeing center the place they gets definitive care. there is in basic terms plenty you're able to do in the sphere. in basic terms relies upon on the way you p.c. to help human beings. despite if its cutting a hollow of their throat on a similar time as their mendacity on the kitchen floor so which you would be able to breath for them. Or monitoring their circumstance over an prolonged quantity of time and helping their bodies heal.
