I want to draw a crowd that looks realistic, but not photographic.

Either.

Avoid oils, which are likely to draw unwanted attention from the Bush administration.

Their first step to confiscating the whole oils supply will be to claim that paintbrushes are weapons of mass destruction.

('Just look at the shape' - President Bush on CNN later.)

Oil colours are definitely the way to go, here. But really it depends on how much attention he wants to draw. If he wants a huge amount of attention, he needs to use the artist's all-time classic. That's right: he needs to use his own blood as the medium, and he needs to use it fresh. Obviously he won't have as much time to get the attention he wants as he would if he was using oil colours, but he'll definitely get more people around him.

Dude! Just draw! I love art! I hang it up all over my house. For instance, I tore out an add for Torque Oil and cut of the advertising text so I could hang it on my wall. Just do it! Maybe try both styles and see what happens.

I love using pastels....they are messy but fun. Though, if you are working outside I would not suggest them because if its windy the wind will blow the dust from them and it will get everywhere...
