As soon as we take back the government.
A small constitutionally focused government that legislates neither businesses or morality would be smaller, allowing for less waste and corruption.
State by eliminating the current system and provide funding for legitimate parties with support enough to run a campaign. set strict spending caps with no loopholes to prevent the uber-rich or the two main political parties from affecting the turn out of the votes.

Return the government to the people.

Hi 180
This is a tricky Q. The title "government" implies that it rules otherwise it would be called servernment or similar. So now we have established that a government is dominant over the electorate then it should come as no surprise that corruption is rife. Take smoking for example, we all know that smoking is bad for you but it is a personal choice whether you do or not. The politicians have decided that you can't have a smoke with your pint in your local pub, but the houses of parliament being a royal palace is exempt from this rule, so if they want a hand rolled Havana cigar with their Dom Perignon they can do so with impunity.
Cherie Blair got a well known con man to help her purchase two flats. This guy named Peter Foster has done time in Britain as well as Australia for fraud. What happened? Nothin.
Ken Livingstone was arrested for assault after allegedly pushing someone down a flight of stairs. What happened? Nothin.
Several dignitaries who donated funds to the labour party were given knighthoods and peerages. What happened? Nothin.
There's a pattern developing here and these are just a few examples.
They want to foist ID cards on us to help in the fight against international terrorism, well ID cards didn't stop 911 did it. Oyster cards, Toll roads with smart cards, and cameras everywhere on the streets. All to make us more secure they say. It all makes me feel feckin insecure, not only will they know who you are and your status ,but also where you have been, how you got there ,the times that you travelled, and who you have been meeting. Our personal and civic freedoms are slowly and surely being eroded and one day we will wake up to a totaliterian state such as Nazi Germany or Iraq under Saddam.
So I would say in answer to your Q. Never, while feckin arseh0les like these take advantage of the fact that there is one law for them and one law for us.
Now i've finished my tirade i'm off to the pub for a beer and a smoke while its still legal.

never. theyre not in politics because they love it solely, without the salary and sidecharms of the job, very few would do it. everyone has their own agenda, nobody is exempt from corruption. those who are will still be put in difficult circumstances that will go against their principles, even morals to keep their job. Those who resign from office after a fiasco, whether they were guilty or not, they have more courage than those who stay and rough it out, like prescott. just makes him look a sad git looking for redemption, he won't get it. Jack Straw has more courage in his small finger than prescott has in his whole empty head.
Politics should be made to be less profitable for politicians.

Maybe proportional representation may go some way to addressing the problem or limit politicians to 2 terms max but the Titanic will probably dock before that happens.

When we restrict the number of times they can stand for re-election. There should be no such thing as career politicians and there should be no such thing as protected pensions for politicians. Unfortunately we provide the trough that they feed at and until we take the trough (or the gravy train) away they will serve their own interests.

I think we are a ways off from that right now. Someday I see us being capable of creating one. Not while the United States is still in power though. For now we just have to yell, kick, and scream while we still can and alert those that don't know to the truth.

Probably never, but I think a big step in the right direction would be to ban lobbyists/lobbying.
