Define "reasonable price"? There are superzoom bridge cameras with 20-30x zoom lenses, plus additional 4-5x digital zoom, which can give you a total of 150x zoom. That should beplenty for anybody! Make sure you are comparing apples to apples... optical zoom to optical zoom, without the digital zoom thrown in to skew the numbers.

I KNOW, I can't hold the friggin thing still enough to film anything at a 30X zoom! What IS the point?!?

Twitching - bird watching. Often you don't want to get too close or they fly away. Same goes for other wildlife photography really.
Also you could go about being paparazzi, but 30x is a bit low for that stuff really.

im not positive but i dont think 30x is a whole lot at all. im pretty sure my video cam has somewhere in the hundreds. i could be mistaken
