If you could somehow master ANY single musical instrument overnight (and we're talking concert-hall skill, multi-million-album-selling caliber here), what would you be playing, and why? (and for my not-so-idle curiosity, what instruments do you already play?)

I'm an absolute musical nitwit----but part of me would love to play the French horn, because it's **so heartstoppingly beautiful** ....the other part says "violin, of course!" because there's so many wonderful pieces that have gorgeous violin parts.

I'd imagine myself playing the piano. I've always been told I have "piano hands", but can't even read music... It can be played in so many ways, from classical to rock, and it's always cool to be able to walk up to an unused piano and be able to knock off a song for the crowd... Carrillon is a close second (you know, the tower bells?)... Imagine half a city being able to hear you play!!!!!!

Like almost everyone else, I have to say piano.

I already play it, but I'm no master. Just competent. I read intermediate level music and understand basic music theory enough to play a little by ear.

But I always dream of having the dexterity of a concert hall pianist. I would love to be able to play any style from classical to jazz to blues to pop to gospel easily and flawlessly.

If only I could do that, I might have a shot at making a living doing something I'm actually passionate about. :)

It would be a piano for me. I've always wanted to learn and think its a very expressive instrument. I don't know how to formally play any instrument, but I do fool around on a lot of them.

I would have to say the piano. It's just so versatile. I took eight years of lessons as a child and can't play one song today...or read music! I just love how the piano can go from classical to rock & roll, to country, to jazz...it's beautiful!
