If it's a joint tennancy you can't make him leave anymore than he can you. You need to get out yourself if you can't agree mutually over the situation. Surely it'd be better for you to get a clean break from everything.

talk to your landlord about getting him evicted. If your landlord won't do it you're just going to have to suck it up and find your own place.
~*~ Added: Since you are Co-tenants the police won't do anything. It is now a civil matter. Even if he comes in drunk, that is legally his home as much as it is yours, so the cops will just tell you that you have to leave if you don't want to put up with it. You can also get yourself into a heap of trouble if you pack his stuff for him. This is called an unlawful eviction. If you don't want to get sued or arrested, my advice would be to discuss with your landlord what to do and if your landlord won't help you LEAVE. Finding a new place to live is far less trouble than getting yourself in a legal mess.

Go to a solicitor or one of those centres where you can get free legal advice and find out what your options are.

call the police and have them their when you are moving out or when he is, don't threaten him with it. It sounds to me like you have put up with enough.
