Since your asking, I don't think players are feared anymore like 15 years ago. It seems that now-a-days, fighters only go after fighters and the finesse players stick to there game. Notice that Chris Simon doesn't fight anymore or George Larocque. Seems like they've earned the respect and are actually playing hockey now. Even Tie Domi( change the letters in his name around and you get Me Idiot!!) gave up on being a "tough guy" and tried to play hockey. But if your looking for "Who to stay away from"? McGratton, of the Sens is on my top list. After the incident with Domi last year, (One right to the nose of Domi), Has an effect on players trying to pick fights with him, cause they re-stance themselves so as to not get in range of Chris's right, and at 6'4", he's got a long reach!!!

So silly. Everyone assumed that the question was refering to who is the best player in the NHL. I would have to say Joey Thornton or Kovalchuk for that.
However, I understood the question as: Who is the toughest player in the league. Every hockey fan knows and has known for years that George Laraque of PHO (just left the Oilers) is the most feared man in the NHL.

depends on what aspect, there is the aspect that they are feared because of their point producing abilities, such as thornton and ovechkin, jagr, kovalchuk, hossa, elias, etc..and then there's the tough guy aspect as for the feared checkers such as regehr, phanuef, etc, and finally there's the fighters, although i'm not quite sure which ones are ones provoke fear because they often cause people to wince and burst into laughter at the thought of them being scary. But you want to know the truth the most feared player in the NHL is one that can do it all, one that can put up the points, one that can finish hard checks, and one that isn't afraid to drops the gloves.

Georges Laraque. He's like a gentle giant, and it takes a lot for him to throw the gloves off but when he does...I think he could very well kill someone. And as mentioned above, any player who says he ain't afraid of big ol' Georges is lying.
