I've heard that armadillos are a protected species in Florida(at least here in Gainesville) and that its illegal to kill them, but, my websearches haven't turned up anything conclusive on said illegality. [Mainly trying to deal with the critters digging under a housing foundation] Does anyone know about the animals protected status? Thanks in advance.

They are protected by a hard shell on their back. Shoot for the head.
