Light years are a measure of distance, not time. 1 light year is the distance that light travels in one year. It's a big distance, you wouldn't want to walk it after a heavy lunch.

A light year is a unit of distance- not time. You could ask "how many years would it take to get there?" OR "how many light years away is it?"
