The answer cannot be 35. The right side of the equation equals 500. Raising fractions to powers reduces their value. Are you sure you copied it right.

The solution to the problem is as below:

(1/4)^m * (1/5)^18 = 1/2(10)^3

4^-m * 5^-18 = 2^-1 (2^3*5^3)

4^-m *5^-18 = 2^2 *5^3

2^-2m *5^-18 = 2^2*5^3

(2^ -2m)/2^2 = (5^3)/5^-18

(2^-2m)*(2^-2) = 5^3*5^18

2^(-2m-2) = 5^21

(-2m-2)log2 = 21log5

(-2m-2)*0.3010 = 21*0.6990

(-2m-2) = 14.679/0.3010

(-2m -2) = 48.76

(-2m) = 50.76

m = - 25.38

Since the answer does not match your answer of 35, however I believe I've tried given you a hint as you've mentioned that you have forgotten how to solve.

Sorry, tried my luck, didnt seem to be working

I agree. Either the problem or the answer is misstated:

-mln4=ln500+18ln5
m = -(ln500+18ln5)/ln4
m = -5.643856
