Have I got a story for you! He lived right near me. One day we had a "battle of the bands" assembly at school. (This must have been 1976 or 1977. He's a couple of years older than I am.) There was the usual procession of dull acts. Then Richie's band came on. I was just sitting there - no one had alerted me that he was so good. But I all the sudden picked up and noticed, for the first time in my life, that a local guitarist was as good as anyone I had ever heard on a record. He was playing Peter Frampton - the big hit back then. He sounded great - again just like someone you'd pay to see.
We later heard he was doing session work, and then he was in Bon Jovi. My sister knew him, and kept in touch for a while.
I know people can post just anything here - but if I were to lie I'd say I knew Eva Longoria, not Richie Sambora! NO ONE was surprised that he made it big.
It's hard for me to be objective - and I'm not a huge Bon Jovi fan - but from what I have listened to he's quite good. I assume he can make the guitar "say" whatever he wants it to. And his "public image" is no different from what he was as a kid.
Good stuff! A good guy. Sorry about the marital thing.

Yes it's true Richie writes a lot of the songs. He co/ writes a lot as well. Im so excited that he is making a new solo record. I can't wait!!! I myself, think Richie is The Best guitar player. He has is own line of guitars, has had people like Jeff Beck,Slash,Eric Clapton & even LL Cool J. have him play on their albums. If he wasn't good.....He wouldn't have so many people wanting to work w/ him. = )

I think Richie is one hell of a guitarist. I love to watch him play whenever Bon Jovi hits Boston. I've been a huge fan of Bon Jovi for a long time now and I adore Richie. I wouldn't say he is the best ever, but he is up there pretty high in my book.

Maybe a 6 - I think there are many other guitarists who far exceed his talent.

He's great, I've had a crush on him forever, but ignoring that, he's still very good. Especially live...Swoon.
