to take you questions in order:
What is the soul? It is the intangible, ineffible spirit that resides inside of every living creature. It is that part which, in most religions is said to transcend the physical body after death to enter either an afterlife, or be reincarnated into a new life.
Do I even need it? A soul is very necessary during life. It only reverts to the purchaser AFTER death.
How can I sell my soul to the devil? There are examples of this in many works such as "The history of magic and the occult" by Kurt Seligman or the "Supernatural" by Douglas Hill and Pat Williams. And if those references don't provied you with a uitable means, I can give you information that is reputed to do just that.
Is it true he can grant wishes? So the legends say. There is even a contempory legend of a blues musician in the 20's and 30's named Robert Johnson that sold his soul to the devil for greater skill as a guitarist.
Has anyone tried it? Personally, no. Although I do know of several people that have and have gotten what they sought.
What should I ask for? Anything you want...just remember this is a one shot deal and so make it important, make it big and make is mean something because once you get it there is no going back and there is no getting anything else.

1 : the immaterial essence, animating principle, or actuating cause of an individual life
My opinion is, the soul is a collective of both conscious and sub-conscious processes involving one's emotions, thoughts and attitudes creating one's conscience.
Do you need your soul? Given the above definitions, I would say yes unless you have sociopathic behavior in which this question as to what the soul is and the need for it would concern you no more than a simple gesture of blinking or breathing.
How can you sell it? The soul is intangible. It is not like an item at the auction block or checkout line. I do not think it is a transaction so much as a result of your actions. The more underhanded the actions one might take to get ahead the more it will weigh on one's conscience. This "breaking" point would probably be as close to what we might consider a sale if one is unwilling to change one's ways. Second chances are everywhere but one has to act on them, according to Christian belief forgiveness is abound.
As for wish granting, anyone is capable of granting wishes. It just depends on what type of wishes you are asking.
Has anyone tried it? Has anyone tried what? A person trying to sell his/her soul or ask the devil for a wish. My guess, with all of the personality types over the years of human existence, yes.
What should you ask for? That stems back to question two. Either you would not care or if you are trying to gain wealth (in its many variations) to such a degree unimaginable and the devil is willing to give whatever you want to gain a soul. A rational person would stop to think; why is the devil so willing to pay whatever is asked for? At such a great expense, and so easily given one must contemplate the actual value of the item wanted, the soul. Think about it for a while and when it is realized that the soul is so valuable the devil is willing to give anything for it, be greedy and keep it.
My question to you: Why sell your soul to the devil and be without when you can keep it and share it with God, FOREVER?

Yes you should sell you soul to the "Devil" Just get a good price for it because once you do your F**ked forever. As for how to go about doing this there has to be a "Devil or Satan entity" in existence that you can summon and sell your soul. Then you have to call upon this being. Does the devil grant wishes. I don't think so. However I have not tried it as I'm not of the God vs the Devil belief. No Pearly white gates of Heaven or Nuclear holocaust fire and brimstone of Hell. But it is your "soul" so you are free to sell it.

that's a myth. The devil is a trickster. If you are considering giving him your soul then he is already close to having it. Your wishes will not come tru and you will just die like everyone else when your time comes. But going to the Devil's eternal Hell will be the only guarantee. Selling your soul to the devil is the same as doing nothing with your life too. It amounts to a waste of your life. Even if you are just joking about this it is something that you should put out of your mind. Take a more positive outlook of your life and do better things.

What is the soul?
I think soul is the part of brain which thinks. You are "you" not because of your physical appearance but because of your thinking. Two people can have same external appearance but no two people can have same kind of thinking.
How can I sell my "soul to the devil"?
This is not to be taken literally. I think this is a metaphor, like many other used in the Bible.
A person is said to have sold his soul to the devil, when he wants to get things in evil ways without being afraid to do so.

Let me quote a passage from M.Bernals 'Black Athena' :
p20. 'In religion, the cults introduced at this stage seemed to have centered on those around Poseidon and Athena. I maintain that the former should be identified with Seth, the Egyptian god of wilderness and sea, to whom the Hyksos were devoted, and with the Semitic Yam (Sea) and Yahweh.'
So there's an extremely strong argument Yahwe is Set, and Set is the 'Satan'. This is shown by comparing II Samuel 24 where The Lord is commanding David to number Israel and I chronicles 21 where "Satan stood up" to command David to number Israel.
This transfers to the NT Revelations where Jesus in his own words claims to be the seed of Lucifer, (Rev Ch22 V 16) 'and the bright morning star' - he identified himself by this as Thoth-Hermes the good shepherd, son of Set.
So the big question thing to sort out here is 'who is this devil guy anyway?' and if you sell to Satan, you sell to god. Would you sell to Jehovah? no way! Choose someone nice like Ganesh. At least, if you ever put on weight, you can claim you have the body of a god!

The problem with this kind of deal is you have to wait for the devil to contact YOU. He's pretty picky on the souls he takes. In fact, he prefers untarnished, godly souls because the rest will be his for free.

Go to the nearest mental hospital and ask at the reception desk for Doctor Satan. Tell her you don't have an appointment but hear he takes walk-ins and that if you can hurry up with the paperwork, you'd like a millioin bucks and to be more attractive. She'll take it from there.

If you're even considering it, then I would think the devil already has it. Why should he bother with something that he already has?
