on mine, there was 2 little things on both sides that i had to pry out with a butter knife..
Make sure that if you do get it apart, that you remember the right way to get it back together!!
I learned the hard way..
And on a brighter note, once you figure it out, you'll never forget!!
Good luck, if you don't get it working, maybe go and take it to the local hardware store.

you should need not remove the spindle. I think you have the self-feeding type which is the best and easiest to thread. look at the 2 holes cut a piece of line the length of your car insert one end to one hole then insert the other end in the other whole and turn the end counter clockwise when reaches the center cut. you are threaded doubled-lined ands ready to go!!!!

It should just pull off - might be a little hard. You can buy either the line or a spool replacement (already wond) at homedepot or local hardware store.
Sometimes there is screw type knob that holds on the spool - and it is treaded backwards. Turn it clockwise.

I'm not sure about your model but my model you need to push in and turn counterclockwise and then pull out. It is a little tight but should not be that hard.
