What are your current eating habits? It might not be that you need to eat something extra, but that you need to stop eating something.

Cut out simple carbs like white flour and sugar and replace them with fruits, veggies, and whole grains. Exercise and take a multivitamin. Relax by doing something you enjoy, or just taking the day off and doing nothing. The exercise and relaxing will help with stress and the nutrition will help, too.
Vitex, an herb, can also help, along with Vitamin E and green tea (ECGC or whatever). I took it and had a period in 2 weeks, even though I hadn't had one in several months. (Although usually it takes a little longer--about 30 days to get in your system naturally).
When progesterone didn't work for me, my dr put me on 2 kinds of med (prometrium and provera, or something like that--it's been a few years), and I had the WORST period of my LIFE (while meeting my future in-laws 3 states away). Try using these natural methods for a couple months and see if they don't work before taking pills. (I was on a bunch of other meds to counteract the effects of those--Prozac, rx ibuprofen, etc)

If the doctor thinks it might be stress.... try excersizing on a regular basis like 30 mins every day. Excersize not only makes you look healthier, but you will feel happier and less stressed out. Even if you THINK you dont have time, FIND SOME. Good luck

You need estrogen to have a period. If your body fat level is too low, then you don't menstruate because your estrogen levels drop. This happens to female athletes like ballerinas and gymnasts because they don't eat enough to keep up a decent amount of body fat.
You need to eat better and get rest. Yes, stress can lead to a temporary miss in your periods, but if it lasts for more than two consecutive months, then you need to have your hormone levels checked to make sure there is nothing else wrong. Also, could you possibly be pregnant? I presume your doctor tested you, but I could be wrong.

stress can do it, so can being underweight or overweight. if it is stress, then the best thing you can do is remove as much of it as you can from your life. it's easier than it sounds (believe me, i had the same issue a couple years back) you just have to figure out what can actually go. you'd be surprised how much of your daily routine you can change. and as previously stated, exercise is good. not to sound gross or inappropriate, but sex and masturbation are good stress busters.
if it is underweight, discuss with your doctor the best weight for you to be at and the best and healthiest diet for you to have to achieve this weight.
overweight is the same thing.
good luck
