Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devil's Triangle and the Limbo of the Lost, a geographical area of about 3,900,000 sq km (1,500,000 sq mi), between Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and Melbourne in Florida (located 55°W to 85°W and 30°N to 40°N), in which there have been numerous unexplained disappearances of ships and aircraft.
The mystery dates back as far as the mid-19th century, with a total of more than 50 ships and 20 aeroplanes having been lost in the Triangle. One of the more notorious cases was the disappearance of Flight 19. Five United States torpedo bombers left Fort Lauderdale on December 5, 1945, on a routine training flight in good conditions. None of them returned. Even the seaplane that was sent out to find them vanished. Other stories about the region include ships found abandoned with warm food left on the tables and planes that disappear without even making a distress call. The absence of wreckage is often cited as proof of the mysterious power of the Triangle.
Explanations are legion, and include death rays from Atlantis and UFO kidnappings. Less fantastic analyses suggest that fierce currents and deep water could explain the lack of wreckage, and point out that several of the losses attributed to the Bermuda Triangle actually occurred as far as 1,000 km (600 mi) outside it. Furthermore, military and civil craft pass through the region every day without mishap. As deep sea diving techniques improve it is likely that more of the lost vessels will be recovered, but it is equally likely that the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle will linger in the imagination for a long while yet.

The Bermuda Triangle is a myth. There are several claims to strange things going on in the triangle. I was in the Navy and was frequently in the triangle with no ill effect. One of the main reasons for all the hype is that there is a large number of vessels in the area therefore a large number of accidents. There is also very calm waters at times. A pilot friend of mine was flying back from Bermuda (at night) when he started seeing stars all around - his instruments told he was flying straight and level - it took him several minutes to comprehend that the water was reflecting the stars off the water.

there are rumors that the Bermuda triangle is a " hot spot " for disappearances since this is a triangle shaped area from Florida to Bermuda and back. there are many theories from Atlantis to gases rising from the sea in addition to magnetic malfunctions. suggest web sites and books which others have related here as well.

There is no hype, over the years both planes & ships have disappeared without trace.
Even a whole squadern of American 2nd world war planes ( flight 19 ) went off the radar without any wreckage being found.
Some say its to do with another dimention or magnetic fields.
i suggest either a book from the libruary or have a look on the net.
Just type in The BermudaTriangle

i believe that it started with the dissapperance of the planes in the b.t... there are many myths and facts but lets face facts, nobody that dissappeard in the b.t. ever came back to say what really happened...wheater it be updrafts, volcanos, ufo's there is no proof and no evidence of the missing boats, planes, etc. etc...and something that is the size of a football field dissappearing? i dont think so...there would be some kind of evidence, ive been diving for over 8 years now and metal dont rot, espically a huge ship...there is nothing, so tell me where did it go???? the b/t isnt that deep and in a plane you know as well as i do, that you can see lots under the water. its crystal clear....

i don't know all of the myths, but there have been recent speculation that it is caused by extremely strong air fissures in the ocean floor due to seismic activity that will explode & destroy ships/planes.

it's one of the stormiest places in the world. i wouldn't recomend a vaca there in may or april. talk about scary! this shouldn't be under mythology and folklore. it's more like weather and geography.
