Absolutely. Take it back.
You will need the receipt, the packaging, and any uneaten portion. Most stores will be happy to return the money, largely because it is a possible huge problem is the situation isn't isolated.
Consider this, others might also get sick from the same food. By informing the store of the problem, they can pull it from the shelves and/or contact the company that produced the food. Look what happened with "Foxy Spinach" recently.

You could try. Stores give back money all the time.
I worked for a grocery store, and you wouldn't believe what they would take back.
However, they are used to people with stories about bad food. If you are considering suing them, you would need documentation of what specifically caused you to get sick..probably a doctors opinion, and you would need to prove that you didn't do something to make contributorily negligent....like leaving the food out for over an hour to make bacteria grow, or like not washing your hands before you eat.
You can get sick from a lot of things, but many times it is our own mistakes that cause the illness.

It is not ethical to ask for your money back, since you have no proof that the product was not adulterated once it left the store, or that you prepared it correctly.
However, you do have a responsibility to report your belief to the store, so that they can investigate. Only when people do this do we find out about contamination in spinach, beef, etc. that the store (and the FDA) can do something about. In this way you can prevent others from becoming ill if it really was the food you suspect.
So basically, you're wanting to do the right thing, but for the wrong reason.

If you are are fairly certain, have some of it still available and have your bill of sales, I'm sure they don't mind you returning it and refunding your money.
If you really want to be mean, you could take some to a lab for testing, and if it tests positive for contaminants you could sue - and of course prevent more contaminared food from getting to other customers..

Yes, just explain that it's bad. I once got some potato salad that was rancid (yuck!), and did the same thing.
