For example, how long would it take to transfer a 30 second video at 3 Mbps?

3mbps stands for 3megabytes per second. So that means it should take roughly 10 seconds providing there is no bandwith traffic...

You'd have to calculate based upon the size of the video file on disk, not the running time. Also, most Internet providers advertise the fast speed as DOWNSTREAM - how fast you receive data. When you're sending something, it's your UPSTREAM speed that counts, and that's often much lower. For example, you might have 3mbps downstream, and 768k upstream. You'd have to check with your service provider- different DSL/cable packages offer different speeds.
