I used to know women that ironed clothing for others for a fee. Does anyone still do that?

Probably not exclusively nowdays since the days of perma press and wrinkle free fabrics. I am reasonably sure a maid type might do some ironing if need be as part of their duties, but not exclusively.

With the onset of permanent press, there is less ironing now, but I will guarantee you that if you look hard enough you can find someone. Lots of laundry mats have people that will do your laundry for a fee they may also do ironing for an extra fee. If not you will have to resort to a dry cleaners. Or check the yellow pages for maid services, there may be ones in your locale, that offer washing & ironing services as well as house cleaning.

I did for a number of years when I was in the USCG. Ironing uniforms for inspections. I made pretty decent pocket money from it. But most fabrics and styles now-a-days don't require ironing and any that do end up in the dry cleaners.

You would have to go to a dry cleaner.

I would recommend getting one of those large size clothes steamers. They are amazingly fast and freshen your clothes at the same time.
