Babies R Us and all those others listed above minus walmart are pretty expensive. My child is now almost 3 months old and has outgrown everything that I bought. Luckily, I did it the smart way, and got things from a baby consignment store near us. The clothes and accessories (stroller, car seat) were in great condition, because like my kid, other parents kids grew out of it too fast to mess it up.

There's a site called www.mykidscloset.com and depending on where you live, theres a lot of places around you where parents get together and trade or sell their things.

I am with a group called babychildrenstuffswap on yahoo groups. You should check out yahoo groups and go to the parenting, baby section for your county.

I am assuming you have already had your baby shower, but if not, just wait and see what the relatives give you.

After that, check out ebay, garage sales and other places for second hand stuff. Babies grow so quickly, they can't wear anything out.

The only new things a baby needs are a crib matress and a car seat.

Put the money you save into an account for the baby's education and buy a gift for the mother.
