I have a 2nd computer on a router with WindowsMe on it. When I hit the start button the WindowsMe logo comes up and just hangs. I've booted in safe mode and I get the logo again. Unfortuenately I can't find the recovery disc. It's a Gateway bought in 1999. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Windows ME is no longer supported. If you don't have the recovery disk, your best bet is to upgrade to Windows XP. If you call around to some local computer stores, or search online, you might get lucky and find a Windows ME CD-ROM.

Well, someone else mentioned that Windows ME is no longer being supported, which is absolutely true. Microsoft stop supporting a month or two ago. Without a recovery CD, there isn't much you can do. The only thing I can recommend is to boot from an USB jump drive (a.k.a. thumb drive or flash drive), live CD or an external hard drive and copy your files off the internal hard drive. There are several live CDs, such as using Knoppix or Ubuntu. You can also use Bart PE or the Ultimate Boot Disk. Since the operating system runs straight from the live CD or jump drive, you should have no problem accessing files off your internal hard drive. If you decide this is how you want to proceed then drop me a email and I will give you more info on how to do so.
