Mumbai-denotes Ma + Amba, Ma is for Mother and Amba is again for mother. In Hindu mythology Amba or the Goddess of Power is the combination of power of good deeds done by all Gods. This power was created to defeat the demons doing evil things. This is the original native name of the place and there is nothing wrong to go back to the roots, since all name get distorted with time. The originality can be restored.

This is partially true.
Be back to explain.
As you know it is a a very diversified country.
In Gujarati Language and in Marathi Language, it was always Mumbai.
There is even an old old son which goes like this "Manvi che mane manvi che...... Mumbai ne moj manvi che".
Lots of countries are going back to their original name for the cities in their country and some countries have reverted back to their ancient forgotten names.
In case of Mumbai the name was always in use in local language.
I studied a book call Maru Mumbai.
The same book was translated (and visa verse) as My Bombay in english I do not know which version was published first.
My older brothers and sisters use My Bombay series and I used Maru Mumbai series.
For while there was a general movement towards vernacularization of teaching after Independence. Now it the names. I do not know what will be thhe next thing on the list.

It is accurate. I have my doubts whether changing the name is a correct move for a city already known internationally by its older name. It is more like a triumph of nationalistic pride over common sense.
