Creation of the Atomic Bomb and end of WWII was made possible by the Tennessee Valley Authority, the only structures in the world that could produce the amounts of electricity needed at the time.

The Battle of Midway was a victory because of he aircraft carrier Yorktown, which was altered from being a battle cruiser by a WPA contract in 1938, against the wishes of the Navy Department.

The eradication of many water-borne illnesses especially in the South during the 1960s, which is what made the economic and political expansion of that region possible.

I was able to purchase my first home with a FHA mortgage in 1985, when no conventional lender would help me. This made me a much better person, husband and citizen.

Vaccine for Polio made possible through the fund-raising efforts of FDR through the March of Dimes.

You can add these on to the others who responded seriously.

Somehow, even though you are whining that you are getting bad answers, I don't think anyone who has given serious answers is going to be the 'best answer.'

Joe Republican honestly believes that it was the government and not the marketplace that drives reform. Sad for him.

But I can think of ten things libs have done.

1. Brown versus Board of Education (led by liberal republicans, but liberals nonetheless).
2. Civil RIghts Acts of the 1960's (led by liberal republicans)
3. Abolition of Slavery, establishment of 13th and 14th amendments (led by liberal republicans)
4. Appointment of Black Judges in Reconstruction (led by radical and liberal republicans)
5. Invested and created NASA (liberal democrat JFK)
6. Created the Peace Corps (liberal JFK)
7. Brandenburg versus Ohio courtesy of the ACLU
8. Skokie Nazi's march, courtesy of the ACLU
9. Full disclosure of publically traded companies (liberal tip o neil)
10. FDR and Turman (liberals) led the nation to victory over the Nazi's, Italy, and Japan.

civil rights, woman's right to vote, alternate energy, end of slavery. Actually, everything that has changed the country for the better is accredited to liberals. The definition of liberal is to change things for the better. the definition of conservative is to keep things the same.

A Day In The Life of Joe Republican
(unknown author)

Joe gets up at 6am to make his morning coffee. He fills the pot full of good clean drinking water because some Liberal fought for minimum water quality standards.

He takes his daily medication with the first swallow of coffee. His medications are safe to take because some Liberal fought to insure their safety and efficacy.

All but $10.00 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some Liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance. Now Joe gets that coverage because his employer needs to offer competitive benefits in order to attract the topnotch employees.

Joe makes bacon and eggs for breakfast. His bacon is safe to eat because some Liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

Joe takes his morning shower and reaches for the shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled listing every ingredient and the volume of its contents because some Liberal fought for his right to know what and how much he was putting on his body.

Joe walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some tree hugging Liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air.
Joe drives to work in one of the safest cars in the world because some Liberal fought to raise safety standards and emission controls.

Joe begins his work day; he has a good job with good pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some Liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer maintains these standards because he doesn't want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some Liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.

During his lunch hour, Joe needs to make a Bank Deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC up to $100,000 because some Liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from greedy, unscrupulous bankers like the ones who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression.

Joe needs to pay his Fannie Mae underwritten Mortgage and his below market Federal Student Loan because some Liberal decided Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his life-time.

Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at the family farm in the country. He arrives at his boyhood home. He was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The house didn't have electric until some big government Liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification.

He is happy to see his dad, who is now retired. His dad lives on Social Security and his union pension because some Liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to. After his visit with dad he gets back in his car for the ride home.

He turns on a radio talk show, only to hear the host say that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. (He doesn't tell Joe that his beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day)

Joe agrees, "We don't need big government Liberals ruining our lives; after all, I'm a self made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have".
